New indulgence: Street Sounds Radio

I just found out about this and the last two days has been a battle between sitting at my desk doing work or pulling out the lino and pulling off a few head spins. OK, that’s a damn lie—I could never breakdance. But mentally, I was THERE.

I’m referring to this rather fine new addition to the Apple AppStore, the Street Sounds Radio app (also available for Android users in Google Play).

I’ve been listening to classic electro track after classic electro track, interspersed with electro tracks I have never heard before. It’s glorious!

For those not in the know, Street Sounds were responsible for a series of excellent compilation albums back in the 80s/90s and were, for many, an introduction to early electro and hip hop. All these years later, I can recall the artwork for the albums and the mixes. One of my favourite in the series was one that was not in the numerical sequence, but a spin-off/special/whatever you call it. Well, they called it ‘New York v LA Beats‘ (but I always referred to it as NYvLA).

If I have one criticism of this app, it’s this:

The play pause control is not centred in the container.

What the hell kind of alignment is this? Triggering some OCD here, I tells yer.

OK, two criticisms:

The word Electro overflowing and clipped. Ugh.
